About Us

Our Journey, Vision, and Commitment to the Community

Our Story Since 2014

A decade of transforming palliative care in Western Kenya

Our Journey

From Advocacy to Action

In 2014, palliative care was unheard of in our community. We began by visiting homes of those with life-threatening illnesses, teaching families basic palliative care skills, and showing that anyone can be empowered to care for their loved ones.

We engaged in community barazas, educating people to seek timely healthcare and support. Our mission was clear: to bring compassionate care to every doorstep.

Making Palliative Care Accessible

Today, we are proud of the strides we've made. The Western Home-based Care Initiative has expanded its reach across Sabatia Sub-County. We train caregivers in the community and upgrade them to certified palliative caregivers.

Our dedicated team now looks after over 370 patients, both in homes and in hospice care. We've also formed cancer support groups, offering emotional and social support to those affected.

Our Mission

Thanks to community support, we've been offered a facility at Sabatia Sub-County Hospital, where we continue to provide care, even as we plan renovations to make it a full-fledged hospice. Our advocacy efforts have led us to churches, mosques, and other community gatherings, spreading awareness and training more caregivers.
